What an incredible weekend it was!

In the true spirit of “Service Above Self,” the Rotary Club of Nairobi Thika Road, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Nairobi Lang’ata, delivered a transformative and award-winning project to the heart of Samburu County.

Test Draft one and two

Our destination: Maralal DEB Primary School, a vibrant institution serving 2,447 pupils and 52 teachers. For years, the school community faced a significant challenge—lack of access to clean water. Pupils had to walk approximately 1 kilometre to fetch water from a well, a daily routine that disrupted learning and compromised hygiene.

This weekend marked a turning point.

Through a strong collaboration and with the generous support of Davis & Shirtliff, we successfully supplied and installed a solar-powered well pump at the school. The system now pumps water from the well directly to elevated storage tanks, providing clean water across the school compound—efficiently, reliably, and sustainably.

The impact has been immediate and profound:

Pupils no longer miss class to fetch water, allowing uninterrupted learning.

Teachers and staff now support better sanitation and hygiene practices.

The use of solar energy makes this system not only environmentally friendly but also economically viable and sustainable in the long term.

This project represents more than just infrastructure—it restores dignity, improves health, and creates a learning environment where children can thrive.

And the impact has not gone unnoticed.
